Polystyrene

Polystyrene is a synthetic plastic made from the polymerization of styrene, a liquid hydrocarbon. It’s commonly used in both solid and foam forms, such as packaging materials, disposable cups, and insulation, due to its lightweight and rigid properties. Polystyrene is produced in masses. Despite its high quantities, it is not biodegradable and can severely impact our planet. Polystyrene is commonly used for packaging for biological goods such as fish and fruit. If polystyrene is contaminated with any of these product’s substances, it increasingly reduces its ability to be recycled within large-scale plastic recycling plants.
